"For maximum color and variety, the wind section is where it's at, and the
Borealis Wind Quintet provided it in abundance...These five very talented
people presented their program with a great deal of humor and verve."

The Borealis Wind Quintet is dedicated to bringing well-crafted, significant and entertaining educational programs to schools and adult education classes. They have spent years fine-tuning their programs not only to enrich existing music curricula but also to introduce music to schools without a music program. The following are programs that Borealis offers.
Elementary School
Programs designed to introduce grades K-5 to the wind instruments, the basics of music, including identification of melody and harmony, understanding pitch and dynamics, basic compositional styles and the science of sound production and vibration. This program increases the student's awareness of sound and music in their environment and encourages them to study music.
Middle School / General High School
These programs assume a primary knowledge of the instruments and are geared to promote the understanding of more intricate musical styles, and to aid in abstract and creative thinking. The materials illustrate the similarity of creative thoughts throughout generations, communication through the arts and explore the source material of popular music. This heightens the students personal relationship to the history of the arts, encourages participation in the arts, and serves as an important invitation to join in current cultural events.
High School/College Music Students
These programs are in-depth explorations of rhythm, practice tips, tuning, and music interpretation geared to students who have experience with instrumental music. More sophisticated musical examples are utilized and composers are discussed in detail. Career options in the music field are discussed, and student participation can be integrated into a masterclass format.
Adult Education
These are flexible programs, which can accommodate any format ranging from a general introduction to music for novices to the more formal lecture/demonstration for experienced audiences. The programs personalize the concert experience for audiences, and promote lively discussion and educational interaction with the artists.
